Freddie Roach is expecting a tough fight against Timothy Bradley, but he is confident Manny Pacquiao will emerge victorious. Bradley will defend his WBO Welterweight Championship against Pacquiao on Saturday night 9 p.m. ET, HBO pay-per-view, and both men have a lot to prove coming out of their highly controversial first fight.
Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO) was once considered the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing. But he suffered consecutive losses controversially against Bradley and decisively against Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012, before returning for an easy unanimous-decision win over Brandon Rios last November.
In their first meeting back in June 2012, Bradley took the WBO title away from Pacquiao via a highly disputed split decision. Most believed that Pacquiao deserved the decision, though there were a few that thought Bradley earned the win. It won’t be easy for Pacquiao to get his revenge on Bradley.
Two years later, Bradley is much more seasoned, and has proven himself with a few big wins. However, Bradley has had some close calls, surviving multiple knockdowns against Provodnikov, and a judge who ruled in favor of Marquez. Against the power punching of Pacquiao, Bradley might not be as fortunate to come away with the victory.
Manny Pacquiao will make a guarantee of $20 million for Saturday's rematch with Timothy Bradley, who will pull in a career-high $6 million. According to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, both Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley will be making $6 million purses on Saturday night for their HBO pay-per-view rematch, but Top Rank's Bob Arum says that Pacquiao's guarantee is actually $20 million with this 3 beautiful ladies :)
Pacquiao also added that Bradley’s unblemished record is not intimidating him at all, saying that he is confident about his chances to hand the 30-year-old American the first defeat of his boxing career. The former pound-for-pound king said that it won’t be easy since Bradley is a more complete fighter now compared to what he was during their first showdown, but Pacquiao stressed that he is itching to prove that he still has a lot of gas in his tank.
"I think Pacquiao won on their first fight. A lot of people think the same," Marquez told HBO Sports. "Right now, this is different, because Bradley, he knows Pacquiao. Pacquiao knows Bradley. This is interesting for the fight."
Bradley, who will put his WBO welterweight title on the line against in the rematch, previously discussed that reality in a press conference, his comments via Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports: He's great, man, and I really, sincerely mean that. The guy is a great boxer. He has a lot of skills. But he's not destroying guys like he was at one point. He's just happy to go the 12 rounds and box and get his win and go home. He's not going out there trying to kill guys any more. He's lost that killer instinct. but Pacquiao is determined to prove Bradley wrong.
