Veronica Roth Is Working on a Two New Book Series of Divergent

Just a couple tantalizing weeks before the release of the film adaptation of Insurgent, the second novel of Veronica Roth’s hit Divergent trilogy, Roth fans have even more cause for anticipatory excitement:

It has been announced that Veronica Roth, author of the bestselling Divergent series which has sold so far sold a whopping 32 million copies (not to mention been turned into a Hollywood blockbuster and with the sequel Insurgent about to hit the screens later this month), is due to write a new two-book series with their release dates set for 2017 and 2018.

While there have been few specific details about the nature of the plot, Veronica Roth and her publisher HarperCollins have announced that the duology (that’s a set of two books) will be about a boy who forms an unlikely alliance with an enemy. Both desperate to escape their oppressive lives, they help each other attain what they most desire: for one, redemption, and the other, revenge.

The first book is set to come out in 2017, while the second will follow in 2018. Veronica reiterated on Twitter that these new books will be completely separate from the Divergent universe, and told the Associated Press that she's intentionally "being so vague" because she's still in the process of writing (but she has a "pretty detailed" outline ready to go). You do you, Veronica. Just please make sure Theo James gets to be in the movie version of this one too.

Intriguingly, we have been told that the series will be “in the vein of Star Wars.”

Despite being in the early stages of writing, the countdown has begun. If the series proves to be anyway near as good as Roth’s Divergent series or Star Wars then we are in for a treat.

Veronica Roth is still only 26 years old, she started writing Divergent when she was still at university in Chicago in the United States.
