Miss Universe Philippines 2014 - Mary Jean Lastimosa

Mary Jean Lastimosa had all the lucky stars aligning for her last night. She was in her finest elements all throughout. Many pageant observers didn’t see it coming that Mary Jean Lastimosa would be crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2014 on Sunday night. While she was among the most cheered on candidates, many thought the battle would be between last year’s first runner-up Pia Wurtzbach, Cebuana beauty Kris Tiffany Janson, and Bicolana Yvethe Marie Santiago. But the Binibini third-timer proved there’s no limit to what one can achieve.

Pia is a beautiful girl but her performance during the finals was underwhelming. The needed charisma of a winner did not surface, the wow factor wasn't there at all, she lost the spark earlier on. She was overshadowed by her closest rivals and I would bet her swimsuit scores may have suffered a blow.

Guidotti has to place. Madame cannot afford the girl's eloquence (when spoken to up close and personal) go to waste. Rather a safe choice for MI.

Yvette looks gorgeous from a distance. Up close there appears some flaws that needed to be addressed. The next few months would come to her rescue and she can add a few pounds to dispel that anorexic look within striking distance.

Janson remains a strong contender for any of the 5 titles since Day 1. She's a strong bet for the Ms Intercontinental crown. MSMdeA wants to make sure that a rather strong representative is fielded by BPCI in her organization's 1st attempt at capturing the crown for the home crowd. Jorge's favorite?

Parul has to be rewarded if only for her perseverance and determination. I'm lukewarm about her chances if the contest pushes thru in mainland China.

Hannah Sison sparkled and she deserved her placement. She should come back. Lehman exudes a fresh-faced demeanor and should also try when she's more prepared.
